THIS IS IT! THIS WEEKEND IS THE ONE WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! THE CLASS OF 1989 WILL HOLD ITS TWENTIETH YEAR CLASS REUNION JULY 24-26, 2009! ONSITE REGISTRATION WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE FIRST EVENT ON FRIDAY, JULY 24th AT THE MAXWELL HOUSE HOTEL AT 7:00pm. THIS IS A BLACK TIE MIXER. The following are the minutes from last week's planning meeting:
Twentieth Year Class Reunion Planning Committee
for Maplewood Comprehensive High School Class of 1989

Date: June 5, 2009

Location: Tennessee State University, LRC Building, Suite 108

Time: 7:30 - 8:30 pm

Persons in Attendance:
Katina (Lee) Page, Gita Jackson, Fredrick (Kent) Jackson, Michael Prowell, Michele Brown, Christy Floyd and D. Lee McGahey

Items Discussed:
1. MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS-
There were no previous minutes to report.

2. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. Meet & Greet Friday, July 24, 2009- Lee discussed that two spaces were reserved on TSU’s campus to host the Friday night meet and greet. A question was asked about alcoholic beverages and Lee explained that there could be no alcohol on the college campus. Then, it was recommended that an alternative site be secured that will allow for alcohol to be consumed with the cost being paid by the individual who desires to drink (pay for your own drink). The Marriott Hotel (airport location) was suggested and Michael Prowell and Katrina Page will check on the availability and associated cost for holding the meet and greet there. The hours discussed for the meet and greet were from 6:30 – 11:00pm. Katrina Page is the point person in charge of the Meet and Greet.
B. Family Fun Day, July 25, 2009- Lee shared the available spots for the picnic for the requested date and the Seven Oaks Park (Shelter 1) was secured. The shelter alone seats 75 comfortably. Gita has secured bids from various restaurants to provide the food for the picnic for Saturday. Gita Jackson is the point person in charge of the Family Fun Day. It was recommended to also secure the baseball diamond next to the shelter so that we can use it to have the old school kickball game. There will also be a blow-up jump castle for the children. Additionally, other activities will be a spades tournament and a talent show open to all to participate. The times for the family fund day would be from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Each member of the graduating class should email their name of their favorite song(s) from the 80s and any old school pictures that they would like to be used to create a presentation during the reunion weekend to D. Lee McGahey at leemcgahey@gmail.com.
C. Sunday’s Best, July 26, 2009- We discussed going to Reverend Troy Holbert’s Church (since the auditorium at Maplewood is unavailable due to reconstruction). Then, after church, we could all go to dinner at a central location with each person being responsible for his or her own meal for that dinner.
D. The Administrative Subcommittee- is comprised of Katrina (Lee) Page, Gita Jackson, Karen (Huddleston) Rowe & D. Lee McGahey. The subcommittee confirmed that a bank account has been established in the name of Maplewood Class of 1989. Reservations were made for the park and will be confirmed for the location of the meet and greet if it is held at a place other than Tennessee State University, where the subcommittee has confirmed two alternate locations.

3. PLANNING THE REUNION:
A. Cost- The cost for this year’s reunion is $100.00 for the weekend and includes: food at the meet and greet on Friday, food and games and activities at the family fun day on Saturday, an electronic memory book and directory, souvenir name tag, scholarship donation endowment established in the name of Maplewood Comprehensive High School, Class of 1989, and a nominal administrative cost.
B. Budget- The budget for the reunion is based upon 50 people at $100 each, which is $5,000.00. So far, we have only collected fees for 6 people and we have $600. This means we are about 10% of the way to our goal. Please encourage any member or friend to register and pay their monies as soon as possible.

4. NEXT PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING-
The next Planning Committee meeting will be on Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm at Tennessee State University, LRC Building, Room 108.

Hey Family,
The next planning meeting for our Twentieth Year Class Reunion will be Friday, June 5, 2009 from 7:30 - 8:30 pm at Tennessee State University, Learning Resources Center, Room 108. If you need directions call me at either 963-5564 or 424-2628, or email me at leemcgahey@gmail.com.
If anyone knows any former classmates, please help us get the word out about our new dates of July 24-26, 2009. The cost will be $100.00 per person. The registration forms will be available at next week's meeting.

Due to the overwhelming feedback from you all, the committe heard you and voted to change the dates of the Class Reunion from Father's Day weekend, June 19-21 to July 24-26, 2009. If you have any questions, please contact me at 615-424-2628. The itinerary for the weekend is still the same.

Hello Family,
The dates for our class reunion will be Friday - Sunday (June 19-21). We have secured the complex for the Friday Night Black Tie Gala. We have secured the park and shelter for the Family Fun Day at the Park. We have also secured the host church for Sunday and there will be an old school grill out at my house after church on that Sunday. We tried to stay as close as we could with the price. It is actually $100 for each person who attends, so that is $200 for couples. Please make all checks payable to "Maplewood Class of 1989". Registration is now officially open and funds may be sent to 3172 Skinner Drive, Cane Ridge, TN 37013. All fees must be received with a post mark no later than Friday, June 12, 2009 to ensure your VIP registration status. This is going to be an eventful and exciting weekend that you do not want to miss. Of course, if you would like a formal invitation, please call 615-424-2628 and speak slowly as you leave the correct spelling of your name, mailing address, email address and telephone numbers. If you have any questions, please email me at dmcgahey01@tnstate.edu.
